Examples of Phishing Emails

Phishing emails are a type of social engineering attack on users to obtain sensitive information such as username, password, 2FA code, etc.. by disguising themselves as a Hata representative in electronic communication. In this article, we will explain more about phishing emails.

1. As a secure way to identify if the email you received is from Hata, you may contact Hata’s customer support by submitting a ticket via Hata's Helpdesk.
2. If you are unsure if the email you received is an phishing email, do not click any links in the email or enter any sensitive information if the link requests for your username or password.

Here as some examples:

• Phishing Email Example 1
  • The hacker attempts to gain access to Hata’s customer’s sensitive information by creating an email similar to Hata’s emails by impersonating.
  • Beware of the sender’s email address: the hacker will setup an email address similar to Hata such as 19support-a@hata.io or support123@hata.io to trick Hata users into thinking it is an email sent by Hata.
  • Typically, these phishing emails will include a fraudulent link to divert users to a fake Hata website to trick users into entering their sensitive information. Example of a fake link will look like this https://www.---hata.io/hata/login.php . 
  • Unfortunately, some users do fall victim to such ruses and fill in their Hata username, password and 2FA code on the scam website. When this happens, the hacker will gain full access to the victim’s accounts.

• Phishing Email Example 2
  • The hacker attempts to get the user to download a fake PDF or image file, which is actually a malware/virus/Trojan software.
  • These malicious softwares will attempt to gain access to your computer to monitor and obtain your sensitive information(usernames,passwords and 2FA codes).
  • Please pay attention to to the overall email structure and its poor layout.
  • NOTE: HATA WILL NEVER ASK USERS TO DOWNLOAD FILES THROUGH EMAILS.

• Phishing Email Example 3
  • The hacker will also try to trick victims to click a malicious link by giving the victim “free money/crypto currency” such as 0.125 BTC.
  • When you see such emails, DO NOT click on the email link.

• Phishing Email Example 4
  • A phishing email will also instruct victims to click a malicious link in order to participate in a “giveaway competition” such as “BTC Giveaway”. Once again, the email address sender is not a official Hata email.

• Phishing Email Example 5
  • A phishing email can also trick users into providing their sensitive information by impersonating as a Hata customer representative, they will ask victims to contact a fake Hata email and attempt to gain information.
  • Therefore, it is always advisable to be on a look out for emails that sound “too good to be true” such as token listings, giveaways, free crypto, etc).
